As most of you reading this blog already know, my name is Amy and I am a college student who is also a Type 1 Diabetic. I have lived with diabetes since I was 10 years old, which makes me a diabetic for half of my lifetime. WOW. Diabetes has challenged me, brought out both the best and worst in me, but above all it has taught me a lot about life and myself.
As a diabetic student who hopes to one day, as a career, impact the lives of others with diabetes, I have been fortunate enough to gain an internship this summer in that specific field. And in New York City no less! Through the Students with Diabetes internship program, I received a position this summer with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) National Outreach team in New York City. Needless to say, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to live in such a lively city, work with a company I have always admired, and learn so much about myself in the process of it all.
I hope you enjoy reading my blog, as it will hopefully include many happy, memorable, yet probably also challenging moments from my time in the “Big Apple” (bonus points to those of you who understand where the reference in my header comes from) 😉
